First is Kris Allen. His is so good! He has a very unique sound but it is very contemporary. All his songs are so easy to listen to. "Live Like We're Dying" is probably my favorite on the CD. "Can't Stay Away" and "The Truth" are both really good too. "The Truth" is a little like Kelly Clarkson's "Already Gone" where they know that it won't work out, but they don't want to leave each other and don't want the truth to be true or even there. Such a good song! He also wrote all the songs on the album. He does a mix of "Heartless" kind of like the one he did on Idol but with more of a beat. He also writes a song with Chris Daughtry that is also really good.
Second is Allison Iraheta. I love her single "Friday I'll Be Over U" and I couldn't wait to get her CD. I was NOT disappointed at all! It is such a good debut album. She's kind of like Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson, and Laday GaGa all wrapped into one. It has a rock & pop sound and juggles and uses them both brilliantly. All her songs have a message inside and are very relevant for today. The most relevant is probably "Robot Love" which is about being in a relationship and the person you're with is attached to their cell phone and other technology. "Scars" is a great song that talks about how we all have our scars from the past and that "whoever we are, we all have our scars". I recommend this CD to all Idol fans and to whoever is looking for a fun new singer to listen to.
Last is Brooke White. She was on American Idol two season ago with the Davids. Her CD came out during the summer and she was on tour recently with Michael Johns (also from Idol) and Benton Paul (another great singer!). She has a very unique style that I don't think everyone would like. It's certainly a classic sound to it and some of the songs just blend into each other. But I really like that it's different and so easy to listen to. Her sound is so unique and different. She also wrote all the songs on her album. My favorite song is probably "Little Bird". You know the saying, "A little birdie told me"? This is a play on that where she asks the bird to tell her something good because she needs something to lift her up. I love "Phoenix"! It's a song about her hometown in Arizona (where I live) and how nowhere seems like this place does. And when you get back to it on a rainy day, it just doesn't feel right. How true that is?!? Arizona is known for its heat and the winters are amazing but it doesn't feel like the normal Arizona. And the title track "High Hopes and Heartbreak" is so fun! It has a disco/pop sound to it and you can't help but nod your head and dance around to it.
And don't forget that the new season of Idol starts on January 12!
